Hi everybody,

I will do a stop over for a few days in Hong Kong. Never been to this city so far. I am wondering how many days I should plan to explore the city. Another thing is that I would like to buy a digital camera. Do u think there might be bargains down there? I meen all the electronic stuff comes from asia, and as far as I know there is no tax on good in Hong Kong.

Thanx in advance for your hints,

Andy

Well, in my opinion 3 or 4 days is more than enough to visit Hong Kong, Lantau island and Kowloon area.

You will enjoy this city only if you really like huge urban architecture and big/modern(Futuristic) cities.

About the camera, when i was there i was also looking for a great deal but i didn´t found anything really much cheaper than in my country so i did not.

Anyway you can find a lot of electronics and camera shops in the Kowloon area near the Chunking and Mirador Mansions or near the temple street.

Also in Hong Kong island specially going back from the end of hollywood road to the central harbour.

Enjoy Hong Kong i found it wonderful ... but also expensive!!!

Hi Dani,

thanx for your reply. I see what you mean. Maybe it is a better choice to buy the camera here in Germany. I also heared that the warenty is limited to 6 months if you buy it there, while you get 2 Years in G.

Where did you stay? I guess Hong Kong is as expensive as all the other big cities like NYC and Tokyo. I did not make any reservations for a hostel so far. Maybe it would be a good idea to do this ahead?! ( Another thing which would be benefitial for GLOBO is a hostel reservation system :-)

So.. yeah .. I am really exited about it.

Andy

Hi Andreas!

yeah is better to buy your camera in Germany, i think so, but i´m not an expert anyway!!

I was in Hong Kong some months ago and i was at the Mirador Mansions, 13th floor, New Garden Guesthouse.

But, where to satay in Hong Kong, depends on how much you could spend there for a day.

What´s your budget?

I was there in a low budget, really dificult thing because HKG is *****ing expensive.

I stayed at the Mirador Mansions, as the Chunking Mansions (50 meters going down the street), is a big building in Nathan Road with some hostels and guesthouses in diferent floors.

Diferent prices, and facilities ... from 60 to 160 HKG$

i payed 60 HKG$ for a Dormitory bed in a 14 beds room with shared bathroom. Enough clean but not really clean.

It was the cheapest that i found there!!

Obviously is in Kowloon but that´s better for me.

There are some hotels near the Mansions but expect 200-450 HKG$/night.

And in Hong Kong island i have no idea about it.

Everything is expensive there so the best is eat in the "Seven Eleven" or something similar as street restaurants near the kowloon park.

Internet usually is for 12-14 HKG$ per hour but after midnight usually fall to 8 HKG$ per hour and ... in HKG Island, at the public library is FREE one hour conection.

To cross to the island the best is take the famous "Star Ferry" and is not so expensive as the subway. (But anyway the HKG Subway is a great experience!!)

If you like football (Soccer) as much as me, you can try to play with the locals at the end(North) of Kowloon park, there are a little footbal field where you can find people in the evening playing and they will be happy to play with you ... well, they were happy to let me play with them!! ;)

I hope it will be useful for you.

Any other info just write me again.

Dani!
