Hi, I'm traveling to five countries in South East Asia early 2005. I'm looking for information on things to do and places to see. If you have any tips please let me know. I'll be going to Bangkok, Cambodia, Vietnam, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and possibly Bali or Java. Being boring, tourist highlights would be fine. Thanks, Misty

You may have to be more specific on the places and things you like.

I will mention the general ideas and you can narrow from there.

Bangkok : Grand Palace, Weekend market, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Chinatown, River ferries,

Thailand : Drop dead beautiful beaches in the South, Hill Tribes and trekking in the North. Great friendly towns all through the NE also Khmer Ruins. Ayuthaya and Sukhothai for more ruins.

Cambodia: Sihanoukville area for beaches, Phnom Penh for Killing Fields, S21 Prison, Royal Palace, Riverfront, Phnom Udong. Skuon for fried spiders.

Komping Thom for ruins. Siem Reap for Angkor Wat and surrounding ruins. Kratie area for river dolphins.

Kuala Lumpur: Chinatown, Petronas Towers, Many Malls, Mosques.

Malaysia: Penang Island, Langkawi Island, Perhintian Islands, Melaka, Cameron Highlands, Borneo Island.

Singapore: Zoo and night safari, awesome food courts, chinatown.

Bali/Java: Ubud, climb a volcano, gamelan performance, Borabudur, Prambanan, great food. Head to the island of Komodo to see Komodo Dragons.

Thanks for your help, this is a good starting place to get some ideas. I really don't know much about SE Asia which is why I need some info. I don't know what I should be seeing, the region seems very interesting. Do you have a favourite place in this area?

For me, the only thing I must see is Angkor Wat, but I will look up some of the places your quoted. Thanks

I would like to go to India in 2006. The main place of interest is the Taj Majal, but do you have any ideas on places I must vist before leaving India. You know I'd be mad to leave India without seeing......
