My husband and me are planning a two weeks'trip to china on December, however, we have difficulties on determine where to visite, given the time constraint. Beijing and Shanghai are sure to go, then which to leave out among Chengdu, Kunming, Xi'an, Wu'xi and Guilin? Can anyone of you give me your reconmendations and opinions.

BTW, is there any cheap phone rental agencies availble when we stay in China, it's on badly damand!

Thanks sooooo much for any kind input!

First and most important, it seems you forget how big China is.

Beijing, Shanghaio,Chengdu, Kunming, Xi'an, Wu'xi and Guilin... You won't see much of the any site if you do them all. So your query is right. If you already have decided to do Beijing and Shanghai, I would do only Guilin (ie Yangshuo) further. Travel between different places is time consuming, even if you fly. Or, go to Xi'an. There's enough to keep you busy for a couple of days if not a week. Most people only go to the Terracotta Warriors but there's much more.

Look at this way, I have spend 5 days in beijing and haven't even scratched the surface, there's so much to see there.

Chengdu is great if you are willing to spend some days going around. I don't think the city itself is worth a visit though the parks are great, the pandas are great, Du Fu village is great... in the area... wow... you can spend a month here and still be surprised how much there is.

I can tell you the same about Kunming. My advice? If you have decided Beijing and Shanghai, choose between either Xi'an or the Guilin area. If you choose Guilin, make sure you fly there since you have little time. Choose Xi'an, take a train to Xi'an and then another to Shanghai.

Have fun

Agree with peter absolutely, and do not forget the wonderful food in these places, especilly the spicy hotpot in chengdu, and xiefenxiaolong in shanghai soo delicious....... I would never forget!

As for the phone rental, have a try on www.tourfone.com. I usually rent their phones, you can just order on line, very conviniet and the price is reasonable.

Have fun!
