Hi

March in Nepal will be nice - it is blossom time. Himalaya views are great. But take into consideration that Nepal is not safe at the moment. Kathmandu Valley with all its monuments is Ok but taking a mountain trek is like a lottery. You can survive but you can be also robbed by armed guerillas...

Good luck!

its my advicve to u that also visit Indian territory if u r so near. Be advised make a pass from uttranchal and not from other states. The uttranchal Himalyan rage gives an unique experience. In the upper uttranchal( India) the nepalies and indian are intermingeld. The tradition and culture is watachable as both are highlanders. You can contact GMVN Ltd. (govt) or any other private travel agency for this. Utttranchal is inctredible

I have just returned from Nepal. Not the best time to go because of the heavy rains which made some travel difficult. I was fortunate to be with Nepalese friends and was able to get to the non touristy areas and stay in family homes.

It is wise to check out the political situation as the Maoist insurgency has created some difficulties. Also be aware that strikes seem to happen at any time, which can create travel problems.

Besides all that it is a truly beautiful country and the people are great. Enjoy!

Hi Nepal lovers...

some sad news for tourism in Nepal:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/3703540.stm

http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,11455989%255E1702,00.html

What is the experience of people who have been there lately or people living there? Is it still safe to visit this beautiful country?

I spent August 2004 in Nepal. Not the best time to go weather wise but work dictates my holidays. I stayed with friends and their families in Kathmandu, Chitwan, Simara, Lumbini, Pokhara and Parbat.

In Chitwan the Maoists had shut the schools for a month.

It was in Parbat that i experienced the Maoist effects first hand. This area is about 5 hours from Pokhara, 3 hours of this walking to reach the village. My friends parents seemed amazed that i had come. Fortunately my friend's father had told the local Maoist leader i was coming but lack of communication meant that we were stopped and questioned. The children were taken from school for 'reeducation' and on another day were shown how to make explosive devices! One evening a large group of Maoists spread themselves between houses to be fed.

Is it safe? On the whole yes as the Maoists do not target tourists directly. Unfortunately their actions do have a knock on effect with regard to accomodation and travel.

A sad situation in a beautiful country with some of the kindest and most hospitable people i have ever met. I for one will be going back!
