Just signed up on a Around the World trip leaving in November. Fiji-New Zealand-Melbourne/Adelaide-Siem Piep/Hanoi-Kolkata/Delhi. Anyone got any recommendations? Places to stay, or great activivites? I like natural areas especially and like to travel very cheaply. Thanks.

Hi there,

Are you coming down under and not going to Sydney (even though I know it is a city) but mainly not coming to Queensland and going out on the Great Barrier Reef!!! If you like natural areas it is one of the best in the world.

No doubt you will hear from Mike if you are skipping the outback and Ayers Rock as that is his favourite part of the Oz.

Melbourne is great for culture but not natural scenery unless you are doing the Great Ocean Road or Phillip Island.

Cheers.

I have limited funds and transportation costs seem high in OZ so I plan to limit myself to Victoria and South Australia. I thought since I would be snorkeling in Fiji, Rarotonga, and Vietnam that going to Great Barrier reef would be overkill. I cannot snorkel, or dive the whole reef anyhow so the importance of its size is mental. I am not a fan of big cities in general and I plan to zip out of Melbourne quickly. Adelaide looks like it might be nicer. One of the reasons, I think I do not enjoy cities is my limited budget and the travellers attracted to big cities tend to be nocturnal. Also, I thought the Grampians, and Great Ocean Road looked great. I have not decided if I will go to Kangaroo Island, or the Flinders Ranges yet.

you should give Melboune a closer look, it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Adelaide on the other hand is a bit "boring" nothing special there except of the great OZ wine. The Great ozean road is a place you definatelly should not miss, thats absolut fabulous!

cheers,

Andy

Hi

On Fiji there is inexpensive place to stay close to Nadi airport -

Sandalwood Inn. They offer free pick-up from the terminal.

In Suva try South Seas Private Hotel - what a name! What a history!

Good luck!
