Hi all,

I am contemplating visiting Sri Lanka next year in March or May for a couple of weeks.

I know that it is possible to rent a car there but I am wondering if anyone has done so or is it recommended to take a car & driver?

We prefer to be independent and have driven on Bali, Lombok, Thailand and many other places so don't find it daunting.

Thanks,

Kerrie

hiya kerrie

when i went to sri lanka with my parents and sister, we had a car and a driver. it is advisable to have a driver bec most of the roads are one lane on each side, and that would mean, tough luck on overtaking. It would take u hours to reach your destination ie like kandy to bentota or colombo to kandy. i remembered our driver was so good at overtaking.

hope that helps.

Hi kerrie,

When we were in Sri Lanka we used public transport, which was no problem at all. It is also a good way to come into contact with local people. When you hire a car and driver you just see the same person all day during your travel. When travelling on public transport you meet new people every day.
