I am planning a trip to Thailand for a week in December. Does anybody have any insider tips for Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi? Right now I am planning 3D4N in Bangkok, 3D4N Phi Phi/Krabi and 1D1N Phuket.
Looking for all tips on what to see, do and eat, as well as where best to stay! Thanks a lot! --- Lover of just five things - travelling, photography, thick crust pizzas, the xy-chromosomes, the Italians and the Dutch. Well, I can't count, so?

Hi Inzaghi,
Depends when in December? Around Christmas can be dodgy accommodation wise - it gets booked up awfully quickly. Firstly my article posted this week on Bangkok may help you there! Fly easily and cheaply between Bangkok and Phuket - you can take the ferry to Krabi & Phi Phi from Phuket. Patong is the noisy tourist hub of Phuket - The Holiday Inn there is excellent. Outside of Patong is Mom Tri's Boathouse a super boutique hotel with good food and atmosphere. Krabi there are several expensive resort places to stay - look at www.sawadee.com. Phi Phi is two isands and accommodation is at a premium - two places Charlies and Ton Sai Bay are decent.
Hope you enjoy the land of smiles - I'm in Thailand with a side trip to Sri Lanka until 1st December and as I write the sun is shining. Things here are so cheap accommodation, food, petrol (gas) and pizza!!
Good luck,
Cheers Brit --- Cheers!

Yo Brit, thanks for the swift response. Well right now I am planning to leave BKK for HKT, and immediately leaving on boat to Phi Phi without overnighting in HKT. I am not interested in super-tourist ridden Phuket, whereas I have the impression that Phi Phi is somewhat less crowded. I will stay at Phi Phi for 3 nights or so, spending 1 day in Krabi - or maybe more in the latter and less in the former but it's 4D3N between Phi Phi and Krabi. Apparently getting to Krabi from Phi Phi is not too much of a hassle. The day before flying off to SIN, I will have to overnight at HKT since the flight leaves there early in the morning.
I will go check out your new article! Thanks again!
PS. I take it that you would advise reservations for accommodation in Phi Phi? I had planned to just walk down the coast and pop into any dollar-per-night hut that catches my eye. Yes I will be arriving in BKK around Christmas eve and in Phi Phi on the 28th or so. --- Lover of just five things - travelling, photography, thick crust pizzas, the xy-chromosomes, the Italians and the Dutch. Hi again,
Like you I am a walk-in merchant - rarely pre-booking accommodation beforehand. However you are coming to Thailand at the busiest time of the year...many places have been fully booked for 12 months for this Christmas/New Year. I would certainly try and arrange somewhere on Phi Phi. Krabi I personally find boring and Phuket is really overkilled particulary in Patong. I am told (and will soon try) that the stunning trip is by road from Phuket/Krabi north to Ranong on the Burmese/Myanmar border. Everyone tells me that it is one of the most spectacular - I have just photographed my map of the area and will download it onto globo under Map of Southern Thailand for Inzaghi - just download it and enlarge the image. if you are thinking of hiring a car make sure you pre-book it - again it is peak season.
Good luck,
Cheers Brit --- Cheers!
