To reach Tobolsk - the first capital of Siberia you have to take a side trip from the main transiberian railroad. Train from Tyumen goes here about 4 hours and cost me 600 roubles. Tobolsk is well worth the detour. It has a kremlin (castle) built on the hill overlooking Irtysh river. Rich in ortodox churches it offers also interesting museums (like prison museum) and great panoramic views from the castle hiil. I photographed also catholic church built at the beginig of 20th century by Polish patriots deported here by tsar. The family of the last tsar spent here a year before beeing taken and murdered on Ural. Famous writer Fiodor Dostoyevski and world-fame scientist Mendeleyev also lived here. Great city, nice people!

You can lose everything, but nobody will take away what you saw and what you experienced... W.D.
