Would it be best to travel with a tour group? or is travelling alone through Peru a pretty safe thing? I have heard mixed things - would love some advice from women that have done it!

Thanks

I traveled through Peru with a female friend several years ago and we felt perfectly safe. We encountered the typical machismo but nothing out of the ordinary.

Traveling on the Inka Trail does require being with a group.

Happy Trails!

When I was travelling few months ago through Bolivia and Chile I meet a few woman travelling alone or together. They didn't reported any problems on the road. You just have to be careful like in other places. Generally big cities in South America are less safe for travellers.
Bon Voyage
