I came across this article while looking for information on locks for backpacks and thought it had some interesting observations and practical tips on choosing one: http://www.vagabondish.com/travel-backpacks-quick-guide/

One thing that did concern me was this comment: "I’ve heard horror stories of TSA officials simply cutting off loose straps from checked backpacks, so make sure everything you have is cinched down and tucked in before letting your pack go down that conveyor belt." Has anyone had this happen? I've seen some inexpensive duffle bags designed to put a pack in for flight - they weight less than a pound but are they necessary?
