Member opinion: This primative campground (no running water or flush toilets) is still a great find! Located at the end of Palo Colorado Road, 12 miles south on Carmel on the left side of Highway 1 (if you reach Rocky Canyon Bridge, you've gone too far), it is rural but at a terrific trailhead for several great hikes and back apck trails. The cost per night is $12, a real find in this area where private campgrounds run $25 or more. Best of all, it doesn't require reservations, and I've never seen it full! As a bonus, there is a terrific Redwood Preserve on Palo Colorado Rd that most people never find!
