Marburg an der Lahn - Germany, Hessen The Elisabeth Church is one of the first Gothic churches in Germany. Building started in 1235 to house the grave of of Elisabeth of Thuringa, who had died in 1231 at the young age of 24. She had been devoting her short life to the poor and needy and became a saint (St. Elisabeth of Hungary) in 1235. The church was consecrated in 1283, but the towers weren't finished until 1340.
