Near the west gate of Angkor

The Angkor Archaeological Park is sometimes just referred to as Angkor Wat, even though the wat is a only are part of the area and park. The park is one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia and I think it should really be on the Seven Wonders list but it isn’t.

The area covers over 400 square kilometres and much of the area is covered with forest and was once the capital of the Khmer Empire, that ruled during the 9th to the 15th centuries.

Of the main temples the most famous are: Angkor Wat Angkor Thom with the Bayon Temple located inside and then Ta Prohm . [edit text] [editors]
