Hi Globies!

Question to our experts from America; what will be the best

time to visit Canadian Rocky Mountains. Regarding weather -

to get best nature pictures...

Thanks

Wojtek

the best time to visit the rockies is in early summer or late fall. You will be swamped with tourists in the summer. If you go to Banff or Jasper National Parks you will see Elk and Mountian sheep right in peoples back yards!

Thanks for the suggestion...

I travel on a budget. What I am thinking about is to travel with my own tent and to camp. Are there cheap campsites in Canadian NP like in the US National Parks? Does the night temperatures in the late fall allow me to stay overnight in the light tent?

Thanks...

Wojtek

Hi Wojtek,

I agree with ta-shy. Best time is late summer. I traveled the whole canadian rockies in August 2000.

Temperatures drop fast at night and it gets reaaaly cold! Don't forget to take a decent sleeping bag with you.

My personal favourite spot is Wells Gray Provincial Park. Almost no tourists there, but loads of wildlife. Go and rent a canoo for a few days and head out for places you cant reach without the canoo.

Let me know if you have more questions and I will be happy to give you more info.

Andy

I forgot to add into my first reply. The Southern parts of BC and Alberta (in and throughout the rockies) have been devasted this year by forest fires that started in the US and also a large one in Jasper (prescribed burn that got out of control). To date the areas of Kelowna, Okanagan Falls, Chase, Barriere all on the BC side were razed by the fire. Some areas surrounding Jasper Ie: Maligne Lake and Maligne canyon and some around Banff were also affected by the fires.

As far as I can tell, the areas of Wells Gray and Clearwater were spared as are places further North. There are still many places around Jasper that are unaffected, with low tourist populations and high wild life.

enjoy it, bring a warm blanket if your there in the fall.
