First Time in New York City -- Advice?

I'm looking for advice on what to do and see while I'm there... not just the standard tourist stuff, but something a bit more creative and "off-the-beaten-path." I'm an avid photographer, so ideas about where to go to go for great photos is also appreciated. So tell me, what's your advice about how I can get a true 'New York" experience in just two days? Have some Chinese food at 3am, pizza from the slice windows, watch some street basketball games, check out the many galleries around soho, shoe shopping on 6th (i think it turns into st marks at one point but dont hold me to that), take the subway up to the bronx and stroll around or hit the zoo, have your lunch in central park, record shopping the the village.
