I am exploring the opportunity to take an 8 day trek into the Mayan basin of El Mirador. The trip consists of hiking 5-6 hours on most days with a couple of days set aside to explore specific Mayan sites. Camping - no services, even at the sites, other than pit toilets. Mules carry the equipment and the outfitter, whom I have used before, provides all the gear and cooks amazing meals.

Has anyone made this trek? I am wondering about how strenuous the hikes are. We would be going near the end of June and heat will be a factor, although I have been to nearby Tikal during June (Twice) and not had a problem.

Question number 2: is anyone else interested? I already have a travel companion (son #1) but this is a trip that is a rare opportunity with an amazing guide who has worked with archeology teams in the past. I can pass on info to anyone who is interested.

Eire
