Island hopping on the Caribeean, which carier?

I looked up LIAT as Jorgesanchez has made good experiences with them on a 30day airpass in 2003. Unfortunatelly they do not offer this service anymore. On my question they replied: Those packages are no longer available. Our new booking module is as a low cost Carrier with sector based bookings. The earlier that you purchase the cheaper your seats will be. That's exactly whyt I am not looking for as I am the more spontaneous person who does not like advanced bookings :-) Has anybody been there lately? Hoping by boat might be another option between some islands, and hoping just the larger distances?! I was thinking about landing in Puerto Rico and then making my way down towards the southern antilles to Trinidad and Tobago. Thank you for any input.
