Skagen, at the very northern tip of Jutland, has developed from a small fishing community into a town where art is now equally important. In the late 19th century many artists of the Danish Golden Age came to live and work here because of the very intense light in the area.
Skagen is also an important ferry terminal with ferries going to both Sweden and Norway.
Just outside of Skagen, in Grenen, where Kattegat and Skagerak meet, you have the opportunity to stand with one foot in the North Sea and the other one in the Baltic Sea.
Other highlights include the Tilsandede Kirke (buried church) south of town and the nearby Rabjerg Mile, Denmark's largest drifting sand dune. [edit text][editors]
