We all know GLOBO points, they help us to see how active a member is. But how about all those time spent on GLOBO? Some people spend more time with reading reports, then with writing. They login sometimes each day, but it does not count with GLOBO points. For GLOBOsapiens it is important to have a lot of members who are loged in, to chat with them, to see that the community lives. It provides a chance for other members to get in contact with them or even recognize that they are GLOBOsapiens members as well.

GLOBO time helps to get an idea on how much time a user spends on GLOBOsapiens from now on. It fills the gab described. Time befrore now, is of course not recorded. GLOBO time is added once you logout from GLOBO.

Hi Andy

A time counter would be fun but must never be considered a competitive thing. I recently discussed this with Wojtek and we agreed that members should not really compete with each other, rather help our combined presence on the internet as a whole community. Just like the points and click-counters, such a time-counter must be a basic indicator of interest and helpful tool to staff to who is active and inactive and how and when (who is "back at home" and active). It would not indicated quality but quantity. On the contrary, I find the monthly award choices extremely exiting because the choice is open to staff to acknowledge quality, not quantity, that should be extended too?

It is not mentioned anywhere but I think there is something like an automatic "time-out" activator at GLOBO after 3-hours. This is important when one forgets to log-out but irritating when one works for more than 3 hours! Can the "auto-logout" time rather be adjusted to one (or three) hour AFTER no input?

In the left-hand-side column it would be very interesting to show when clicking "Top 10 (five, TEN or twenty) Members" for each one of:

- Points last week

- Points this Month

- Points this Year

- Points all time

- Time last week

- Time this Month

- Time this Year

- Time all time

- Clicks last week

- Clicks this Month

- Clicks this Year

- Clicks all time

There is no need to show numbers there, rather just show the names without abbreviating them?

Is is also possible to show how many guests (un-logged-in) visitors are online at GLOBO?

R'Rudi

Hello Rudi,

thank you for your comment. I agree on some points you have mentioned. About your suggestion on more space for then top 3 members on the left row, there is one thing you do not consider. GLOBO needs advertisement to pay for the members, since most are not paying. If you take a look at each GLOBO page, you will notice that there is advertisement coming along with content. The advertisement pays for the content. If I give more space to content, there is less for advertisement. If there is not enough space, the revenue from advertisment will not be enough to pay for the content. You see, this is a a symbiosis. I remember a poat from you back a few weeks, where you suggested to move the header google ad away to the gray area. Same thing. Advertisers only pay, if they raise awareness. By moving ads to the right, there is way less awareness and ergo way less to pay for the content. It's a simple calculation.

Anyway, what I was starting to say is that the GLOBO time indicator solves some problems, too. You do need to logout to get the time counted. Some members simply forget this and it looks like they are online, but they are not. It is also a first step to a planed system comming up within the next weeks. Stay tuned :-)

Andi, my/our suggestions would hopefully make only the MAIN page more interesting. All other pages could have the all the necessary supporting advertisements on the left. For layout, I learned though that content is important on the left and adverts are most effective on the right!

Hi Rudi,

I am sorry but I have to correct you. The home page is the most expensive one in advertisement. This is a bit of topic. The reason I posted this thread is to inform about the new feature GLOBO time.

regards,

andy

Sorry to get off the topic (I punch myself for that!). The GLOBOtime idea is very cool, any new feature that can be added is an absolute plus to the community. I now see that the counter is running and shown for each member under their "activities", great!
