Djibouti City has two faces: European and African. Unusually in this part of Africa, the city has a French feel and the old European Quarter is dominated by a mix of French Mediterranean and Yemeni architecture. It is a lovely combination. The African quarter is predictably and charmingly chaotic and much busier.
Djibouti is an expensive destination, and in African term - extremely expensive. The country wants to become a Dubai of Africa, and there is much investment in ports infrastructure. Not so much in tourism, though.
The state has plenty to offer in terms of unique landscape and some great diving, if you can afford it.
People are welcoming and very friendly. For years, Djibouti was a station of the French Foreign Legion, and some people will think that you came to Djibouti to use the services of working girls. In fact, in Djibouti City it is hard to find a good club, which is not sleazy, seedy and doesn't focus of sexual services. However, it is easy to ignore all this!! [edit text][editors]
