Mayan Ritual site on Hilltop's by eirekay

Chichicastenango - Guatemala, Quiché There is a legend that the Mayan altar stone at this site was taken by the Spanish conquistadors into San Tomas Church, which sits about a half mile away, as a way of defiling the altar. The village priest, out of sympathy, allowed the Mayans to remove the stone and place it in the woods. The rituals that take place there now are a bazaar blend of Mayan tradition with Catholic sacrament. Chickens are sacrificed and burned but wild dogs are allowed to eat the remains. The Shaman chants while he collects 10Q from any tourists wanting to take pictures and pours whiskey from plastic Pepsi bottles to fuel the fires.
