Hi everybody,

in order to increase security on GLOBO we are currently testing SSL on GLOBOsapines. This means that all your private data you enter, like passwords and email address will be encrytped before sent through the internet. You may be familar with this from online banking.

Some old browsers might have problems with it. We have tested it on several machines, but your configuration might be different. Please report any difficulites you experience, so we can look into it and fix the problem.

Best regards,

Andy

Hi Andreas,

Thank you for upgrading the security in GLOBO. I think it is great that members can have peace of mind when transmitting data over the internet.

However, I would like to report that since the installation about a week ago, I have not been able to upload any photographs and at the extreme case, I could not even load the main page of GLOBO. I am running 2 pcs at the moment and both face the same problem. I am not sure if others are experiencing this problem but I think at my end it is quite serious. Ive reinstalled my windows and also upgraded the firmware of my Modem for one of the pcs, nothing changed. At last I've resorted to using a proxy which has enabled me to load this page. FYI, I am using Windows XP with SP 2 and IE 6.0 browser.

I'm sorry to be the one to have to make this report and constantly bringing up issues but I do really love this community and would like to contribute as much as possible.

Thank you for having this great website.

Regards.

Farizan

Hello fieryfox,

thank you for your message. That is strange but would explain why traffic is going down a bit. We have tried it with several PC's and Apple computers, but it works perfectly. Funny thing so is, that the main page, as well as the picture upload page has nothing to do with SSL. It is just login, modify account and register.

Are you sure that this is not a thing with your computer? Could you load other pages in the same time?

Was there an error page, or just a blank page? Maybe you could be more specific in how that error shows up and how the screen looks like.

The system you are using is fine, so there should really be no problems at all.

This sounds really serious. I appreciate any additional info you can give me on that.

About your last post report concerning travel logs. That error has been fixed, I have just not uploaded the new version so far. Will be done in the next days.

Best regards,

Andy

Hello Andreas,

Thank you for replying to my post and looking into the issue.

Since Friday last week I've not been able to load the GLOBO main page except when I use a public proxy server. Even then, I could not log into my account. I tried my best to discover the problem with my computer and at last resorted to a fresh install of my windows XP but it didnt resolve the issue. I could access all other websites including my webmail accounts online but could not load the GLOBO page.

Right now, I am writing from my office and I've managed to log in but still I could not upload any photographs. After the upload starts within a few seconds the status bar will have 3 blocks in it before returning an error page which states the following:

"The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following: ............ "

I am not certain why the upload fails but as you said, it is a serious problem. Perhaps there are only a few users experiencing this and they may not know what is causing the problem. I only suspect that it could be the SSL during login and the encryption, as prior to this I had no problems uploading to GLOBO. Nevertheless, I would welcome to any suggestions from members to resolve the problem at my end if there are ways to overcome it.

I really look forward for some positive news. Keep up the good work Andreas. Youre doing Great!

Thanks.

Regards.

Farizan.

Hello Farizan,

there are 2 steps we can go back on GLOBO to old status. First I have now disabled SSL for you. Lets try if this works and helps.

Could you try the picture upload which failed from the same machine again please? I will leave the settings like this now, so you can check on your computer at home if you can access GLOBO with your other system. Let me know if it workes or not, so I can take further action. Next step would be a complex server configuration change. I like to resolve the issue, but it looks like you are the only one so far where this occures. I just tested it on 10 different systems, but it worked on all of them. So I cant reproduce the error myself.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Andy

Hi Andy!

Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to resolve the problem. I've read your reply in the forum about disabling the SSL. I am at my home pc now and I dont have any problem logging in to GLOBO. Everything works fine. I have uploaded 4 photographs so far without any problem except for one where the dimension is 768 x 1024 pixels. Everything works!. YEay! :-)

I am relieved that now I can upload ... but I think it gives rise to the need for more test and configurations with respect to the SSL. Thanks so much for looking into the matter. Please let me know if you need any other info at all about the earlier errors.

Best regards.

Farizan.

Hello Farizan,

looks like we know at least that it has to do something with ssl. I would like to make that 100% sure before I invest lots of time in digging for the error with muliple computer test systems.

Therefore I have activated SSL again and would like to ask you if you could check now with the same computer like you just successfully loged in and uploaded picutres, same config etc. Login, upload a pictures etc.

If you now encouter problems again we do know for sure that it has to do with the ssl settings and I will disable ssl until this is sorted out.

Thank you for your help,

Andy
