I have booked travel to Greece from mid-Sept to early October 2010. Can anyone give me some of your favorite Greek islands to visit? I'm up for any and all types of experiences to have the best trip possible, from hiking, biking, eating, bouzouki nights, sightseeing, snorkelling... so I don't have "favorite" activities because they are all good! - so please let me know - what were your fave Greek islands and what did you do there?
Thanks a million! I can't wait to be off travelling again!

Hi Jeanette, Everybody has different criteria when visiting the Greek Islands, those in the Dodecanese tend to be a little more visited with more airports & tourists but my favourite and what I regard as the prettiest is Kefalonia one of the Ionian Islands, it has a lot of places of interest, the road network is reasonable & the little town of Aghia Effemia, on the east side has a good marina, dive boats & some pretty good tavernas, good luck with your search, happy holidays! regards, Tony. --- I am no longer a stranger in a strange land.

Hi,
My favourite island is Rhodos. It has everything. One of Europe's best preserved medieval towns, great ancient ruins, incredible castles, fantastic beaches, unrivalled nightlife, superb myths, wonderful seafood, unique special produce, and there is even more... The island is big enough to find a secluded little place, but is also very popular if one wanted company.
Probably not really Greek, but Crete has so much to offer, too. It has everything, and more. For example, Europe's only natural palmtree forest.
But there are also islands to avoid... like Corfu or Aegina. While Corfu boasts UNESCO-listed town, it does not seem that special at all and there is not that much to do there, and yet Aegina is almost a tourist trap...
If you like hiking, then Thira is a good choice. It is also perfect destination for volcano lovers.
I hope this helps... :)
Best regards
