Hi guys been ratching about trying to find out what the weather seasons are in the Alps and this site by chance.

Myself and a few friends are thinking of driving the Alps, Paris, Geneva, Genoa, Monaco and Lyon on the way home, so I was wondering if you could tell me when the snow season runs, it'll be nice to see some snow but not really up for a planned white out! Vehicle wise we are fine all got Mitsubishi L200 4x4's www.l200.org.uk if you have one too!

Planning on running the mont Blanc tunnel as well, should be interesting to see how the truck handles 17000 feet!

Weather in the alps is much of a luck thing! It can snow year round at high altitudes, not usually in lower valleys from May to October. Generally a high pressure cell over the region will guarantee good weather, cloudless and windless days. Alternatively, because of an aerofoil effect, low pressure cells, weather fronts and their accompanying stronger winds will cause rain, storms and even flooding on the windward side of the alps and a dry heatwave on the leeward side at the same time. It can rain for two weeks non-stop or for two weeks not at all!

http://www.eurometeo.com/english/home gives monthly average temperatures and rainfall (click "precipitation") for major cities in europe. Eg: for Geneva see www.eurometeo.com/english/climate/city_LSGG/meteo_Geneva

Just before leaving and during your trip use the following websites for weather information and other travelling tips:

www.thealps.com > weather 3-day forcast and other tips

www.skiingthealps.co.uk > snow reports for regions

www.sionvalais.com some webcams of current conditions for a treat in advance!

You'll enjoy the Alps anyway, any weather.

Hope this helps, Rudi
