I have booked a cheap flight to Portugal in December and I mean to get a bus to Evora. Any tips on the area welcome. I should particularly like advice from people who have been to Marvao and Montaraz on which is best to see - I'm afraid I do have to choose between them.

Thanks,

David

Thanks Orta. I've bookmarked all of them and they certainly don't put me off going there - to say the least! Best wishes, David

Olá David,

I`ve been doing some research at work talking with my colleagues. Unfortunately I have no forthright answer for your question.

Montaraz has some followers because of its beuty on the hill, and the sights from the town, Spain, the Alentejo and finally the barrage.

Marvao, pretty similar in this way (situated on the top of a mountain) lacks the barrage, but its location near Portalegre and Castelo de Vide also both nice places to visit.

Check this sites (in portuguese):

Castelo de Vide: http://www.cm-castelo-vide.pt/home.htm

Hi Doltra

Muchisimas gracias. No entendio Portugues hablado pero puedo leer bastante por comprender estos 'websites'. He decidido irme a Marvao y tengo una habitación reservado en Portalegre la primera noche.

Saludos

David

Hi Orta, Doltra and anyone else interested.

I had a terrific time and I shall be putting up reports and photos quite soon. I chose Marváo and Castelo de Vide this time, along with Evora, Elvas, Estremoz and Portalegre.

I don't really like saying anything is 'best' because memories fade over time but I'm sure that I've not been to a better village than either of the first two named above - anywhere. Obviously I didn't 'discover' these places. In the guestbook ta the Pensão in Marvão there were notes from all over the world - full of superlatives.

However, unless somebody else is ready to start, I may well be the first to write about these lovely places here.

Cheers, David
