Dolomites in September?

I think about a week or two in the famous Dolomites. Is this a good time regarding the weather?. I think rather about enjoying viewpoints then climbing the hardest trails... :) How many days could I reserve to see the best things? Bus or rented car? Any suggestions? Anybody wants to join? I will land in Milan-Bergamo on Sep 12th and fly back on 22nd. Anybody wants to join me to share the rented car and accommodation?
