i am travelling around eastern europe (starting in gdansk) going thru poland, czech rep, slovakia, hungary at the end of august / start sept for 3 weeks. any recommendations of things to see (or not to see) ? also, does anyone kno any good websites on train travel for these areas?
You'll find Polish Railways official timetable here: www.pkp.pl (there is an English version available).
The question what to see/ not to see can't be answered unless you share your interests with us - then I could suggest some options.
E.g. if you want to hang around in cities, I'd highly recommend Gdansk, Torun, and Krakow in Poland, but if you'd rather do some hiking in the countryside the suggestions would be somewhat different (although Krakow is a must in any case), but again this depends on what your likes and dislikes are (in any case I'd recommend Gory Stolowe in Poland - unusual rock formations on the way from Gdansk to Prague). But there are other interesting places in Poland too, like high sand dunes just by the Baltic Sea, the Zakopane area (Tatra mountains), and much more. 3 weeks are too little for Poland alone, let alone other countries ;-)
If you need further info on Poland, drop me a line and I'll try to help you out.
I am from Romania, East Europe. All East European countries are beautiful, I visited most of them. I like Prague and Bratislava very much. Also Krakow in Poland is very picturesque.
I see that you did not put Romania on your travel list. Maybe you will change your mind and come to see Romania too? It has very beautiful cities, like Brasov and Timisoara, and high mountains in the central and northern part.
