I think this is a KOOL site, but you know, it just seems that the general use is pretty low. I mean, I came across this site by chance and feel pretty disappointed that with so many members that there are so few posts. Cant somethng be done to encourage more people to be aware of this site and then we´ll get more ads/queries about travelling. To date in the Europe section, there are only 5 posts from over a 14000 member site. Summins not quite right. Id like to hear your comments about the success of getting info on this site.

Hi Gary

...its not always this quiet at GLOBO, just the lull before another storm, I think a lot are travelling/planning at the moment. Also, staff do something like a server-reset in the middle of the month and members don't like to post then because thier contributions are then amoungst long lists of the 50-recent and a regular log-in then doesn't show just/only the latest uploads since last log-in anymore. I wish this would be done at the end of the month.

Just three weeks ago the amount of uploads was going on overfill, more than 50 picture posts per day! End of (northern) summer should be very interesting again when a lot of members are back. I too will be away soon for three weeks, Texas barbecues calling :-)

Hi Gary

As Rudi pointed out this site is (at the moment) more about pictures, reports, travel guides and travel tips. The forum however is not used very much, it seams that people get their information from other means... I.E. guidebooks, and lots of information can be gathered in reports.

But please post your questions here in the forum I'm sure you'll get some helpful answers... what is not liked in the forum are ads... as you might have noticed...

We would be glad if you could help contribute to the community... so when theres nothing going on in the forum why don't you upload some pics and reports....

have a great day!

Martin

Hi Gary,

thank you for your posting. You are right we do have not so many postings. However the postings are more or less free of unwanted adverisers. So most of the postings made, are by travel enthusiasts and if you make a serious question about travel you will very likely get an answer sooner or later.

You wrote that GLOBO is a KOOL site. You are right :-) Thank you. But that might be the problem. You see, we do have about 14.000 Members. Usually a small percentage of members is active on any kind of community. Take those few hundred active members and look what they can do on GLOBO! They publish reports, upload pictures, write destination guides and post forum messages. Some members spend hours on crafting very nice reports. So the time they spent on GLOBO is divided on a lot of places at GLOBO. You need hundred of thousands of members to get the same amount of postings as if GLOBO would be a forum only site. Have a look at the main page. The 24 hour overview box gives you an idea what has changed since yesterday. Its a great place to start your day :-)

Anyway... good to have you here Gary!

Best regards,

Andy

this site is ok. i am just starting to look around.

i do have one complain <already> i was looking at the tips section for my home and native land <canada.> just to get a picture of what kinda quality info they have about different countries. and they have some terrible recomendations fer different places across the country. it doesn't realy represent any of the cool places in this country.

i understand that it would take a huge amount of effort to gather this information for all the different countries. but there is no feedback section there as far as i could tell.

***pete's drive in in calgary AB was given 3 thumbs. i would like mention that the fantastic flavoured milkshakes they mentioned got a bunch of people really sick from e-coli poisoning.

and the other places they gave 3 thumbs up for were resorts n bleh. canada has so many cooler places than that

Hi divanoo

...there are 170 other Canadian tips, I'm sure most of them are correct because I have learnt to trust the members here. With GLOBOsapiens running for only 3-years now (the travel-tips section is new), I find the amount of uploads increadible. This is not the "Encyclopedia Britanica", neither "Google" but just a small but growing influential and successful community, that's why I enjoy and joined it. Canada is one of the most beautiful and natural places on the earth. Hoping to see some uploads from you too.

You wrote: "..... pete's drive in in calgary AB was given 3 thumbs. i would like mention that the fantastic flavoured milkshakes they mentioned got a bunch of people really sick from e-coli poisoning ....."

We say, if the place is still running i'm pretty certain it's fixed the one-time problem and can be rated three thumbs now!

We discussed the thumb rating system also in the forum thread www.globosapiens.net/topic-verified-travel-tips_47_1228_0000.html recently and agreed that the rating system is very personal and the quality of places might change over years or even seasons.

There many "feed-back" ways at GLOBOsapiens:

- write a travel-tip on the same place with a new view

- write to the member (guestbook or "contact")

- discuss the tip in a forum just like this

- contact staff or moderators(only in emergency)

Oh D! Please do remove/edit the "sh..." word, its not a pleasant example for Canada neither the kind of language we use at GLOBO, I know in some countries its normal use, amoungst friends in Germany too! You can edit your entry using the "edit" button below it.[This paragraph will then be deleted accordingly].

I would like to welcome you personaly but your "guestbook" option is not activated, also for other "feedback".

Hello Dan,

I must say I can not agree with you. The tips are made by people who have been there, and if they give it 3 thumbs they must have really liked it. That is there personal opinion and there is nothing bad to say about this. I guess if they wrote that the milchshakes where fantastic they did not get any poisening :-)

What I do NOT like actually are postings of such a stile like rangutan already mentioned. The lower part of your posting sound agressiv and intollerant to me. Very much untipical for a canadian. Go ahead integrate yourself into the community, upload a picture of yourself and make some really good travel tips. I have traveled all across canada and would be really interested in reading some aditional canadian travel tips.

Regards,

andy

Hi Dan,

I am in complete agreement with Rangutan and Andy. I would like to mention, though, that all of the contributions are made by members who have experienced the different locations that are posted (in the reports, pictures, tips, and so forth). If a member went to Pete's Drive in Calgary, then his/her experience was that which was described. If your experience was different, why don't you post a tip on the place and describe your experience? There are opportunities here for more than one tip on the same location.

Why are there so few reports and tips on Canada (a beautiful country)? The people who post most frequently here seem to have a wide diversity of travel interests. Many like to travel to exotic and "out of the way" places, so Canada does not get the large volume of space. We do have several very active members who live in Canada. Perhaps you could use the "Contact" function and ask them about submitting more reports and information about the areas near where they live.

I have enjoyed the time that I have been a member of Globosapiens, and hope that all of those who pass through here might have a positive experience. Please let us know how we can be of service.

Russ

Dvanoo, I also think that your negative comments and tone don't have a place on Globo. Sure, you are entitled to express an opinion but not in such an aggressive way, it's just not neccessary.

I am surprised that you haven't uploaded a single picture (including member pic) report or some of these Kool travel tips that you were talking about.

In regards to the forum it does seem to have a cycle, sometimes I log on and spend the whole time I have available reading the posts in the forum to see that they are not free advertising or whatever and not even starting on working on stuff that I wanted to do.

Remember this is site that is still in it's infancy and eventually it will have a large pool of active members online constantly but it just won't happen overnight.
