Hi,

I'm going to England for the first time... staying with a relative near Oxford. Just wondering if anyone can recommend whether to take the train or bus around.

I want to make quite a few day trips to London from Oxford, and then visit sites around as much of the UK as possible... I'd prefer train as it's quicker, but am worried about costs and also, how many places can I get to by train? Is the rain network limited?

Any help appreciated!!

As far as i can remember there are frequent and reasonably priced buses between London and Oxford (Greenline?). National Express do funfares from £1 but i am sure you have to book in advance. Another option is the megabus but i have heard mixed reports on how efficient the service is - but it is cheap.

The train tends to be more expensive unless you can book in advance but on the whole is quicker. Also beware of travelling on Sundays as engineering works can prolong journeys!

Enjoy your trip

Hi,

The rail network is quite extensive in England, however can be subject to delays, but generally if you are travelling off peak its not too bad. Similarly to what Magsalex said, it can be quite expensive.

To be honest, the bus is your best bet. It cheaper and and can be more dependable, there is also an extensive bus network. The only other factor you should consider, is how much time you have in England? Becuase this could determin which you choose.
