Travel guide to Kvivik

Sad but impressive

Kvivik is an idyllic village on a loop road between Torshavn and Vestmanna in the Faroe islands, beyond the tunnel for Vagar. It makes an ideal spot for a picnic lunch.
One feature is one of the oldest archaeological sites in the islands, a Viking farmstead - with good explanatory notes in Engliish as well as Faroese.

The other major feature is a very sad one, an impressive memorial to the whole crew of a boat that went down. The first 5 names are from a single family in Kvivik and it's only too easy to imagine the devastating effect of such an accident on village life. [edit text] [editors]
