Talking about the Færoes, one becomes weary of superlatives and words like magnificent, glorious, outstanding and the like - because practically everywhere there justifies such words. However, even in the Færoes Saksun is one on its own.
The Atlantic is reached through a cleft in high cliffs but inside there is almost a lagoon. The chapel and the Duvudardur museum enhance its charms and the whole enjoys a form of serenity which many other scenic spots by the ocean do not possess.
The road to Saksun, an offshoot of that to Tjornúvik, is not particularly appealing for the first mile but then gets better and better. A bus does go there but not every day. [edit text][editors]
