Turku is on Finland's west coast and the destinations of ships from Sweden by day and night. It's worth crossing at least one way by day for the wonderful island scenery. Turku has its own Archipelago or trips can be made to the Åland Islands. For the archepelago, boats are free and the inter-islands ferries are free to pedestrians and to motorists who are going less far than the main island for at least three nights.
However, though easy to do when planning a trip, it's a mistake to treat Turku as just a transit city. There's a castle and a cathedral before you even start on the museums and just strolling or sitting near the river is exceedingly pleasant. [edit text][editors]
