Bretagne [English; Britanny] is in the far north-west of France. It was for some time an independent Dukedom and the Breton language is one of the Celtic group. They still have tales of King Arthur's Round Table which is a further link to the Celts of Cornwall.
The majority of visitors, a large number, are drawn to the coast. Whether it's better scenically than that of Cornwall is an open question but it's certainly a favourite with British tourists.
The towns of the coast vary a great deal from the slightly self-conscious prettiness of St Malo and Dinan, just up river, through places with a purely scenic appeal as on the Brest Peninsula, through resorts like those east of Rosco, a true port. to the more traditional villages like Guilvinec.
However places in Britanny away from the coast may also have a great appeal. Examples are Quimper, with its beautiful cathedral and Huelgoat with its woods and jumbled boulders. One walk there leads to a huge Iron Age earthwork. [edit text][editors]
