Easter Island - South America or South Pacific?

But I hear that those guys from the airlines invented that they will qualify IPC (this is the code for Easter Island) as a part of South American continent. So it seems that if in your ticket you have an allowance of 4 free stops in Sth America going onward to IPC you can use only 3 of them on the real continent... Is this true? Thanks dear experts... It is roughly half way between Tahiti (French Polynesia) and South America. It is one of the most remotest parts of our globe. I read it is a common link for RTW trips using the "LAN Chile" stopover between Santiago and Papeete but think that accessing the central South Pacific via Hawaii would be cheaper and assume that it would NOT count as a standard coupon stop in S.America. Ask "LAN Chile", they will know best.
