Petrified Forest National Park - United States, Arizona Petrified wood was so abundant in the past that people living in the area used it not only for stone tools but also as building material. Later, the wood were used for souvenirs and commercial ventures. Fortunately, residents recognized that the supply of petrified wood was not endless and by the beginning of the 20th century steps to preserve the area were taken.
