Munich travel tips

Maharani
The oldest Indian restaurant in Munich, since then there are some others in the area. The cuisine here is so special and the aroma so strong that one can often be attracted to it streets away when in the area. This place is famous in the city for it's Chana or Kashmiri Gosht (lamb) and Murg Jaipuri or Mango or Mumtaz (chicken). Yum! They have a small beer garden on the side under a huge tree too, wind protected, open always in summer whenever the weather is good. Friendly and quick service and different, unlike the Mediterranean stuff, yet just as extremely romantic! Best news (2007): Eat-all-you-can buffet midday for €6,50 or specially on Sundays/Holidays €9,50 and ladies pay one-for-two on Mondays..... "Curry'ntly" my very hot cuisine tip! more

Paulaner Brauhaus
Great in winter and Great in summer. This has the typical "~Brauhaus" atmosphere, a pub, restaurant, meeting place or party place. Monday eveninings (usually) is a.m.a.u.c.e evening for €10 with a hearty bavarian buffet. Saturdays is live sport on a big screen. Cozy in winter but for summer they have a large beergarten at the back of the house in a court with it's own self-serving area. The spare ribs and sauce are 5* [4.7] more

English Garden
This city park is the largest of any worldwide, almost as large as Hyde Park (London) and Central Park (New York) put together, and the southern Isar green belt conscidered seperately! There are two rewarding stips in the park: The "Chinesische Turm" and "The Fischerhaus", both highly recommended to get a bit of fluid back into the body after miles of walking :-) I read that that the Chinese Tower was erected in 1790 and when bombed in WW2 rearected in 1952! There is a very fancy restaurant www.chinesische-turm.de that I have not yet tasted, preferring beergarten atmosphere outside. more

Zum Flaucher
This is my favorite Biergarten in Munich! Tucked well away from noise and traffic, on the Isar west bank amoungst a forest of trees. Sometimes I jog past it and offen can't resist stoping for a "mass" (litre of beer) and spare ribs or grilled chicken! The beergarden is open whenever weather is good but they also have a "stuberl" (a cozy inn-type restaurant) otherwise or in winter. Hard to find and beware, walkers and joggers might send you in circles looking for this place! Even the map "anfahrt.jpg" on their website is confusing and shows it on the east bank. It is on the WEST bank, there is only a small kiosk on the east bank in that area! [...will inform them, hope to get a freebee?] more

Archeological Museum
Starting from the stoneage around 12000 BC and continuing through the bronze age, roman and medieval times, one can follow ancient history of southern Germany.
