Travel guide to Sekondi
Ghana - Fort Orange
Ghana - Fort Orange
Sekondi forms with its sister town Takoradi Ghana's second largest conurbation. It is a busy town and home to a large Navy base and a rather modern football stadium. There is plenty of evidence that it once was an important colonial town, as many grand mansions stand along long alleys. There are plenty of shops, banks, markets, etc. Sekondi also claims the position of Fort Orange built in 1640 by a certain European royal family of the same name. The fort is now a lighthouse and a seat of the local Ports Authority. It is constantly occupied by the lighthouse keepers know a lot about the stronghold and happily give a tour around the complex for a small fee. The view from the top of the fort is great, but the proximity of the Navy base make photographing a delicate issue. [edit text]  [editors]
