Gibraltar is, of course, unique; a piece of land adjoining Spain but politically a UK dependency. It is a real curiosity to find so much that's British in such a remote and different environment.
The land itself is mainly rock, but there is still ample room for its near African climate to help the growth of plants never found in Northern Europe.
The political tnesions at times between Gibraltar and Spain have meant that Gibralter, a place of very low rainfall, has needed to be self-sufficient for water. Hence there are huge tanks inside the rock where not a drop is wasted and they have developed facilities for using sea water as much as possible.
Obvious attractions for visitors are the funicular to the top of the island to see the incredible view - and the barbary apes; also boat trips to watch the dolphins. [edit text][editors]
