The Irish name translates to English "The valley of two lakes". It is a typical glaciated U valley as the gouged rocks on the left show, with terminal moraine causing the glen to fill with the waters of a deep lake. The gravel carried down from the lateral hanging valley on the right has formed the intermediate moraine cutting the lake in two
