Clonmacnoise - Ireland, Offaly Tiny church from the middle ages showing signs of age. It is reputed that St.Ciaran, the fifth century founder of the Clonmacnooise monastery is buried within the walls which were built much later. A belief arose that the soil from his grave had some miraculous qualities. A monk sailor -St. Columcille -on his way to Scotland in the fifth century carrying some as a relic, is said to have calmed a voilent and near fatal storm at sea by sprinkling a little on the waves. Pilgrims over the centuries acquiring small quantities of the soil as relics seem to have contributed to the subsidence if the foundations.
