Benaulim is a relatively quiet seaside village in south Goa. None of the day tripping hordes visiting Colva (20 mins walk north) make it this far. It is a good place to unwind, if you avoid the Christmas period.
The Indian Ocean is superb especially late afternoon when the sun makes the surface flicker with a hundred different colours. There are just enough beach shacks to make the seashore lively.
However, it's no longer the laid-back fishing village of twenty years ago. Frantic building is transforming the place into a 'resort in training'. More hotels, more homes, more apartments make inroads on the paddy field to accommodate sun-loving Westerns and relatively affluent middle-class Indians.
Benaulim is still a tranquil place where you can stay in family guesthouses or rent long-term accommodation, but it is developing fast. So, if you want to see the fishermen haul ashore their catch every morning, you will have to come now. [edit text][editors]
