Mandrem (Goa) is a long stretch of white empty beach about 3 km south of Arambol and separated from the main road by a creek crossed by several rickety bamboo bridges.
The wide wind-swept beach is lined with an army of sunbeds. Accommodation is across the creek in several large-scale hut camps, advertising Yoga sessions mainly in Russian because Russian package tourists have discovered this place.
The market village and commercial centre is in Madlamaz-Mandrem a short walk inland from the beach. It has a supermarket cum souvenir shop that stocks the same goods as any Goan tourist place.
The fort-like building on the seafront is used as a setting for Bollywood films. If you are lucky you may be asked as an extra.
Best time to visit: from November to May, unless you like to be soaked by the monsoon rains. [edit text][editors]
