Madurai, with its 1.1 million inhabitants, is the third largest city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In its center you will find the Meenakshi Temple, one of the most famous buildings in southern India.

Of course Madurai is crowded and hot - but definitely worth a stay. There are not only the famous temple and the bazar to see but also the excellent Ghandi Museum, that gives a very detailed overview of Ghandi´s life; they even show the dhoti Ghandi did wear when he was shot. [edit text] [editors]
