Hi All,

Just curious, but could anyone let me know what they would consider the top ten attractions in the country. I'm doing some research and need a little help.

Thanks
Amanda

Hi Amanda,

This is what I think:

1. Esfahan - the city's architecture and bridges
2. Persepolis - remains of the ancient city
3. Tchogha Zanbil - ruins of a holy city
4. Yazd - city's architecture, desert and Zoarastrian monuments
5. Bam - ruins of remarkable citadel
6. Pasargadae and Royal Tombs - dating back to Achaemenid Empire
7. Soltaniyeh - the mausoleum of Oljaytu from early 14th century
8. Shiraz - city architecture and gardens
9. Mashhad - the holy city
10. I would pick up either a place south by the Indian Ocean or in the mountains in the north.

That was my plan. I could not fit everything in my holiday (I stayed longer in 1. and 4. - as people were amazing there), and did not see 3., 5., 7., 9., and 10.

I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Krys

Amanda, I read about Persdian gardens. They must be beautiful. Will write more during the next days.

Hi Amanda,
I finally looked at the book what so fascinated me, that I promised myself to go to Iran only to see the Persian Gardens: Penelope Hobhouse, Photos by Jerry Harpur,
Gardens of Persia, Cassells Illustrated GB London 2003. The book has informations for travellers too. You probably can find it in a good library or in a second hand book store, because I don't know whether you still can buy it. When you tell me where you go I can look those places up and tell you whether you can find a Persian Gardens in it.
So long

Christl,

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I will have a search on Amazon for it and have a read.

All the best
Amanda
