The Dome of the Rock
The old city of Jerusalem is a walled area which is less than a kilometre square. It is situation on a hill and has seen areas outside the city walls grow immensely to become in total the largest city in Israel.

Three religions consider Jerusalem to be the foundation of the world - Judaism, Christianity and Islam; hence for the Jews the Temple Mount and its Western Wall is of significant importance, for the Christians the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and for the Muslims Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque.

While this is one of the oldest cities in the world, recently (19th Century) it was roughly divided in to 4 quarters, Muslims, Jews, Christians, and Armenian; and whilst Armenians are Christians they were deemed the first to adopt Christianity.
