A prominent Sicily website still describes Cefalu as an undiscovered gem. In fact it now appears in a number of holiday brochures in England [and doubtless elsewhere.] However it has not been spoilt and still gives the impression of an unknown hill town, particularly out of season.
What distinguishes it from a number of other delightful Sicilian hill towns, with splendid beaches below, is its Cathedral. There's no point in trying comparisons between the exquisite Byzantine mosaics here and the wonderful Arab-Norman ones at Monreale. It's worth seeing each in its own right. [edit text][editors]
