Historically this was a mining village, now a wonderful ski resorts, with all the amenities needed, i.e. banks, post office, hospital etc.
It has the charm of any alpine village but without the crowds and costs. It has an extensive ski area with over 30 runs but links up with the French resort of La Rosiere. Located on in the heart of the alps with the Rutor Glacier on one side and the other the highest peak in Europe, Mount Blanc. Also if you get up really high, and squint with one eye you can see the Matterhorn. If that's not enough with a twenty minute bus ride you can to Courmayer where the ski pass is still valid.
The Après ski is limited, and surrounds the many restaurants, but the main hotel has a fitness centre with swimming pool and sauna. In Courmayer they have ice skating. But to be honest after a day skiing all you need is a good bottle of wine (the local Aosta Valley La Torette red), a good meal and a little 70s music is all you need. [edit text][editors]
