Pisa’s star attraction is the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Construction begun about 1170s and took 200 years to complete. As the ground on which the Tower was built on was not firm, the tower tilted. As the centuries went by, the tilt became more and more. In order to save the tower, in 1988, the tower was closed to visitors and with the help of skilful engineers, the tower now leans about 6 degrees and was reopened in 2001.
The other attraction at Pisa is the Duomo, a 11th century cathedral with a blend of Classical, Byzantine and Moorish influences. A very elegant structure, its definitely worth a visit. [edit text][editors]
