Fuji san (Japanese) aka Mount Fuji is a dormant volcano that stands some 3776metres high and is almost perfectly cone shaped.
Most pictures that surface now are taken from the Shinkansen trains as it is seen (on a clear day) around 40 minutes after leaving Tokyo Station or a little more than that if leaving Kyoto.
If the aim is to climb the volcano you have to start off really early and allow around 7 hours. It is best done during the summer months between July and August as the weather can be very changeable near the summit.
The best time to capture perfect pictures are in the winter months, early morning and late evening. But it is better to go to Fuji Five Lakes which has some great viewing areas. [edit text][editors]
