Shin Fuji or Fuji City can be used as a base for exploring Mount Fuji. If the aim is to climb the volcano that you have to start off really early and allow around 7 hours. It is best done during the summer months as the weather can be very changeable near the summit.

If your ideas are of far less taxing, then it is possible to get a bus to the Five Lakes which has some great viewing areas. There is also a cable car to a viewing platform which on a clear day will ensure great pictures. The drive takes a few hours so yet again it should be an early start.

Finally if you can’t be bothered to do either of these then you can walk from Shin Fuji train station to the local park and enjoy the day will exploring some of the cities shines and know that Mount Fuji is right behind you. [edit text]  [editors]
